Our story
The Women’s Day Run is an annual event held on International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. In 2026, the run will celebrate its 4th anniversary.
Launched in 2023, it’s a timed fun run with distances from 3 km to 16 km, designed for women at the center but open to everyone: men, kids, friends, and families.
The run is more than kilometers on the road. It’s music, sweat, conversations, and community. It’s a morning where women claim space — on the track and beyond — to move, to connect, and to celebrate strength in all its forms.
The Women’s Day Run exists to do three things: get active, stay active, and spark real conversations.
We believe fitness is freedom — physical, emotional, and mental. When women gather to run, they also gather to share, support, and lift each other up.
Every edition also powers change off the track.
The run raises funds for the Mercy Line menstrual kit program, providing reusable kits that help keep Ugandan girls in school.
Since 2023, runners have raised UGX 15 millions, proving that a morning jog can actually transform a girl’s future.
What you need to know
What exactly is the Women’s Day Run?
The Women’s Day Run is Uganda’s annual timed fun run on March 8th — International Women’s Day. Distances range from 3 km to 16 km, and the event is open to women, men, and kids, but with women always at the center.
Guiding principles:
- This is a women’s run, so we need to see more women on the route than men. Bring your sister, grandma, auntie, daughter, niece, girlfriend or bestfriend!
- Men and boys: For this run, you must bring along at least one participating girl or woman as your qualification to run.
- Men and boys, you can also volunteer as fueling station agents and route cheerleaders. Please call or email is if you would like to volunteer.
The run is timed — but the spirit is all about participation, not podiums.
What’s the cause?
Every Women’s Day Run fuels the Mercy Line menstrual kit program — a locally made, reusable kit that gives girls dignity, confidence, and the freedom to stay in school all month long.
The facts:
- 1 in 10 girls in Uganda misses school during her period.
- Mercy Line kits last up to 2 years, replacing thousands of disposable pads.
- Since 2023, the Women’s Day Run has raised UGX 14.2 million, funding hundreds of kits and keeping more girls in classrooms where they belong.
So when you run, you’re not just moving your body — you’re moving the needle for girls’ education.
Who can join?
Everyone. Moms, daughters, aunties, husbands, boyfriends, besties, kids — if you can walk or jog a few kilometers, you’re in. We keep the vibe friendly, inclusive, and fun. Come solo or bring your crew.
Men and boys: For this run, you must bring along at least one participating girl or woman as your qualification to run. Use this opportunity to recruit someone into the running community – you won’t regret it!
